Processing of Raw Materials

raw material processing facility employs a versatile suite of equipment to achieve the desired particle size and material characteristics for your application. We utilize jaw crushers for controlled size reduction, followed by high-energy milling options like planetary and ball mills to achieve ultra-fine powders. Magnetic separation ensures the removal of unwanted ferrous materials, while plate and frame filter presses efficiently separate liquids for further processing. For specialized needs, we offer pug mills for efficient mixing and extrusion, screw blungers for thorough homogenization and deaeration, and spray dryers for transforming slurries into precisely controlled dry powders. This comprehensive approach allows us to meticulously tailor the raw material properties to your exact requirements.

Fabrication

Our forming facilities provide a comprehensive suite of technologies to translate your vision into reality. Uniaxial presses offer a well-established method for achieving precise compaction of powders into near-net shapes. For high-volume production of consistent profiles, mechanical extruders deliver efficient and reliable forming. Forging the future of ceramic design, our state-of-the-art ceramic 3D printer utilizes both layered extrusion and DLP (digital light processing) techniques, enabling the creation of complex geometries and unlocking unparalleled design freedom. This spectrum of sophisticated forming technologies empowers you to achieve the optimal balance between precision, efficiency, and design complexity for your specific ceramic applications.

Sintering & Densification

Our densification department boasts an unparalleled array of heat treatment equipment to achieve the optimal density and properties for your ceramic components. We offer a variety of drying options, including programmable hot air ovens, humidity driers, and autoclaves, to precisely control moisture removal. For precise temperature control, we have a comprehensive selection of furnaces, ranging from low-temperature models for initial binder removal to high-temperature options exceeding 1800°C for advanced ceramics. Specialized furnaces cater to specific needs, including controlled atmosphere for reactive materials, roller hearth for continuous processing, microwave for rapid heating, vacuum for degassing, raising hearth for easy loading/unloading, electric shuttle kilns for production runs, and even hot presses for densification under pressure. With this extensive equipment portfolio, we can tailor the densification process to your exact material and performance requirements.

Surface Modification Facilities

For tailored surface properties, our facility offers a range of techniques including spin coating and spray pyrolysis for thin film application, Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) for atomic-level control, and high-precision grinders and polishers for achieving desired finishes and tolerances. This empowers precise optimization of surface characteristics like wear resistance, biocompatibility, and conductivity.

Library

Library facilities play a vital role in achieving the cherished objectives of improving the standards of education, stimulating academic interest among the student community and promoting research. Our central library has an exhaustive collection of nearly 1,00,000 books on the subjects and a number of National and International journals. In addition to the Central Library, Department of Ceramic Technology also has its own library. It has an excellent collection of books on ceramics and related fields. Moreover, the Department also has internet facilities which help the students in keeping abreast of the latest information in the field of Ceramics.
