Minerals play a vital role in the economic and infrastructure development of a Nation. The Tamil Nadu is one among the mineral rich states in the country and it possess various mineral resources in different parts of the State. The state is possessing the proved Lignite Resources of 8569.31 MT in Neyveli sub basin and 416.61MT of lignite in Pondicherry sub basin with total augmented Lignite Resource of 24693.90 MT in Mannargudi sub basin. Following the Lignite, 638.37 MT of limestone. 61.48 MT of Ilmenite, 40.40 MT of Quartz and Silica sand, 28.43 of Magnesite have been explored successfully in the Non-Metallic Mineral sector. Besides, the State is rich in operating around 1600 numbers of quarries in the Rough stone, Black Granite and Multicoloured Granite sectors.
