PROFESSOR

Urban and Regional Planning as a process focuses on optimal utilization of land towards sustainable development of communities. Understanding communities and their habitats are the fundamental requirements to make an assessment of their needs for the present and the future. Professional planners apply their technical and practical knowledge to balance between the needs of the communities and all available resources in a rational, ethical and acceptable manner to all concerned stakeholders in the development. Though, the task is tough and challenging, it offers opportunities for innovative conception of development models, use of advanced technology in deriving scientific solutions, articulation of issues confronting the communities, positively influencing framing of public policies etc. The profession is truly multi-disciplinary, and promises interaction with a wide spectrum of professionals and elected representatives of the people, who are engaged in governance of cities, towns and villages as decision makers. The planning profession is self-motivating as a pursuit towards the welfare of the people and the ultimate joy of the profession is realized when the plan proposals get implemented and the quality of life of the people is enhanced. Apart from offering students, the skill set required for the planning profession, the department also serves the society through extending consultancy services to government and non-governmental agencies - Dr. K.
