Facilities

1 .QUALITY CONTROL LABORATORY

The laboratory educates students on quality standards for printing and packaging materials, conducting tests and inspections to assess various aspects such as barrier properties, ink adhesion, durability, and tensile strength in compliance with BIS and TAPPI standards. The tests are conducted in accordance with industry regulations and standards related to food safety and environmental sustainability.

2. RESEARCH LABORATORY

The laboratory focuses on advancing knowledge and innovations in printing, package design, and material science. It serves as a hub for cutting-edge research, developing new techniques and equipping professionals for the industry. Research projects cover sustainability, digital printing, new packaging materials, and color management. These projects involve prototyping, experimentation, and validation studies, collaborating with industry partners, academic institutions, and research organizations to produce challenging results.

3.PLATE MAKING LABORATORY

The laboratory focuses on teaching students the development, testing, and optimization of printing plates, which are crucial for the quality, efficiency, and cost efficiency of the printing process. It includes RIP software, a plate processing unit, an exposing unit, and a developing unit. The software develops halftone dots for printing, controls dot gain, and assists in other adjustments before plate making. Exposure and developing play a significant role in improving print quality.

4.DIGITAL PREPRESS AND COLOR REPRODUCTION LAB

The laboratory provides students with extensive knowledge in the PREPRESS area of the press, including Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat software. It focuses on topics like pagination, layout creation, graphic designing, PDF creation, and image acquisition. The laboratory also teaches students about color accuracy control in various processes, including substrates, monitors, and printing processes. It uses various colour management software, measuring instruments, profiling software, and calorimeters to ensure accurate color management.

5. PRINTING MACHINE LABORATORY

It provides knowledge to students on managing, calibrating and optimizing printing machines. This machine laboratory contains semiautomatic and automatic printing machines from remarkable printing machine suppliers/brands such as Autoprint Knight, Heidelberg, etc. In this lab, students are taught to operate the machine along with their mechanical parts and their mechanisms.Students are allowed to have hands on experience with machine maintenance and trouble shooting several printing problems including mechanical failures and print defects.

6. PRINT FINISHING LABORATORY

It facilitates students with the knowledge of various print finishing processes like cutting, trimming, folding, laminating, punching, binding, etc that enhance the visual appeal and durability of printed products. The laboratory helps to ensure that the printed materials meet the desired quality standards. The laboratory encapsulates/ encloses a range of equipments that teach the students of the industrial needs at print finishing and converting areas.

7.PACKAGING DESIGN LABORATORY

It aims at creating the layout for package and making the structural design and graphical designs. Several designing software are used in this laboratory. Design creation is done on Computer Aided Designing software like Libre CAD. Also Crates and palettes are designed using Auto CAD software. This laboratory creates opportunity for students to design and develop new and innovative packages.

8.BLOWN FILM EXTRUSION LABORATORY

It provides facilities to learn about the film extrusion process and the film properties. The blown film extruder can accommodate various materials and processing conditions which allows to conduct research on new materials, processing techniques and applications related to blown film extrusion. This laboratory provides controlled environment for research, development and quality control of plastic films enabling students to in-depth learning about the extrusion process and the extruded materials.
